Youth holds the future. This is something Runs 'N
Roses fully believes in and knows. It is the youth of Thailand
who can learn and be aware of how to save the nature and animals
from disappearing.
Runs 'N Roses supports the
Thai
Child Development Foundation, who organizes together with local
authorities and several schools in the area, some youth activities,
such as:
Educational projects with volunteers

Since May 2005 the Thai Child Development Foundation started educational
programs (based on the English language) in several local schools.
All projects of the foundation are financially supported by Runs
'N Roses. Children as well as
adults are welcome at these programs. If you are interested in being
a volunteer and work together with us on these educational programs,
you can visit the web-site of the Thai Child Development Foundation.
Check
the page on volunteer work.
Environment
Awareness and youth education
To be proud of one's village means taking care of its surroundings.
Besides the preservation of the forests, cleaning up, recycling
and reducing garbage, environmental friendly farming are major aims
of Runs 'N Roses. The Thai
Child Development Foundation organizes many projects (supported
by Runs 'N Roses) to raise awareness
on these subjects. The Save-the-Rainforest program of Runs 'N
Roses also has an educational program (in Thai) that
is organized in cooperation with the National Park in several local
schools.
Education in schools

Together with the English teachers of the primary schools in the
area, educational projects on English language, games, culture exchange,
environment and recycling are done by the Thai
Child Development Foundation.
Since 2003 volunteers came to Phato, to participate in this program.
Most of the volunteers of course, are not teachers or educators.
But they have been students for a long time, so they know what is
fun and good to remember and what is not.
By playing games, quizzes, doing handicraft and art, play sport
and sing songs, the Thai students overcome their shyness to speak
English. Everybody has a great time and the question is always:
who teaches who? Because, most of the time, it is the volunteers
who learn a lot during their stay in Phato.
Projects together with Thai Child Development volunteers
Runs 'N Roses supports the
work and aims of the Thai
Child Development Foundation, who organizes together
with local schools a - several projects to make the children in
the are of Phato more aware of the beautiful environment where they
live in.
The Thai
Child Development Foundation is run by volunteers
and a small staff. The Foundation works
work together with some volunteer organizations all over the world.
Many volunteers come to Thailand each year to participate to work
together on subjects like: education, environment and social projects.
Some projects on youth activities
already done:
Environmental projects with local youth
Such as: recycling projects, how to grow plants without chemicals,
how to make compost
Educational projects in more then 12 different primary schools
in the area:
Such as: English conversation, exchanging culture, sport and games
and Summer Holiday Program.
Creative Learning Center
Since 2003 volunteers of the Thai Child Development Foundation
organize creative lesson in several schools in the area. They use
their own skills to teach the children about nature and recycling,
such as music, art, drama and so on. This way of teaching we call:
the Creative Learning Center. We hope to have a real center in the
future, but for now the centers are in the schools. For more information
on the Creative Learning Center you can visit the page.
Summer camp

Each year, in April and in October when the schools have their
holidays, the Thai Child Development Foundation hosts a group
of children for a summer holiday camp.
Since 2004
In April 2004 twenty children from Ubon and Udon (North eastern
part of Thailand) stayed for 4 weeks at the premises of Runs
'N Roses.
The children had - next to great holiday - English lessons and several
activities on their program. Such as: some sightseeing in the area:
the waterfall, the beach (for some of them the first time to see
the sea!), trekking in the forest. And, of course, everyday plenty
of time for swimming in the pool and/or the river.
The camp is an initiative of the Thai
Child Development Foundation (TCDF), a foundation
that organizes projects for Thai children. Runs 'N
Roses facilitates places to sleep, eat and play. All educational
activities have been coordinated, organized and done by the Runs
'N Roses-staff and volunteers of
the Thai Child Development Foundation.
Everybody involved - kids as well as grown ups - had a great time.
So in 2005 another camp was organized and also in 2006 there was
a summercamp. This year not on the premises of Runs 'N
Roses however, there where to many schools and students interested.
So the camp was organized in several schools for a period of 2 weeks
each.
Ever since these successful camps, the foundation organizes holiday
camps on yearly base now.
"The world I live in"-project

'The world I live in" is an educational project that started
at Phato primary school. During the whole school year two Thai
Child Development volunteers
work together with the students on this project. The project will
start in June 2004. The project is meant for the students of grade
6, aged 11 and 12. The project is done in three schools in the area
now and hopefully more schools and volunteers will be involved soon
The project
'The world I live in" is a project that will make students
aware of their habitat, the world they live in, their family life,
culture and the importance of the area and the nature they live
in.
During a the school year the students will work together - in study-groups
of 6 students - on the different subjects of the project. Next to
that they will realize a visual result of each lesson. This can
be a book, a presentation, a newspaper, anything actually. This
result will be sent to schools abroad in an exchange program.
If you are interested in this program, you can find a copy of
the project description and set up here.
