Who is who at Runs 'N Roses

What else can you expect?

How to get there?

   Planning your trip and
   preparing it

You decided to go to Thailand, to South East Asia. Maybe it is your first trip to this part of the world, maybe you have been here before. There are a few things that can be used beforehand as information when you plan and prepare your trip.

On this page you will find information on the best period to come to Thailand (when to go there and what to bring) and what you should bring with you.

If you want to have information on travel documents, like passport and visa or on health you can visit the pages on these subjects.

You can also check our 'link' page, where you will find links to many pages with information on Thailand, traveling, background information and how to plan your trip.

When to go there

When you visit the south, stop by at Runs 'N Roses!

The best overall time for visiting most of Thailand vis a vis climate is between November and February - during these months it rains least and is not too hot.

The south is best visited when the rest of Thailand is miserably hot (March to May), and the north is best from mid-November to early December or when it starts warming up again in February.

If you're spending time in Bangkok, be prepared to roast in April and do some wading in October - probably the worst two months, weather-wise, in the capital.

The peak tourist months are December and August, and the least crowded months are May, June and September.

The best period for visiting Runs 'N Roses, which is located in the top of Southern Thailand, is from November until June.

What to bring

  • Bring as little as possible - one medium sized shoulder bag or backpack should be sufficient!.

  • Take lightweight clothes, unless you are going to be in the cool season to the North of Thailand. In that case you take a pullover. Natural fibers can be cool and comfortable, except when they get soaked with sweat or rain, in which case they quickly become heavy.

  • Sunglasses can be bought cheaply on markets of big(ger) cities.

  • Flip-flops or sandals you should have when you visit Thailand. They are easily removed before entering a Thai home or temple or shop. Of course you can buy them cheaply everywhere in Thailand.

  • Sport shoes and or hiking shoes are useful when you visit the rain forest or plan to go on a trek or walking trail

  • A small torch (flashlight) is a good idea, as it makes it easier to find your way back to your room or bungalow at night.

  • A compass, a lighter (for lighting candles and mosquito coils) are also useful items. These object can be purchased easily everywhere in Thailand.

  • Toothpaste, soap and most other stuff you use in the shower, sun-block and mosquito repellent are available in almost all supermarkets. Even in the small villages.

  • A language guide or dictionary can be a very useful item, while traveling. It will help you to speak some Thai and for sure it will get you in contact with many Thai.

  • If you want to wash your own clothes, bring along some clothes pegs. Detergent you buy in Thailand (also available in small quantities).

  • Bandages and ladies hygienic material: most Thai women do not use tampons, and thus they can be difficult to find in Thailand. In general only the o.b. tampons can be purchased in the bigger supermarkets. Sanitary napkins are widely available throughout Thailand.

Natural building project:; supported by Runs 'N Roses

Runs 'N Roses is set up to support the Thai Child Development Foundation (TCDF) financially.

Many foundations have a lot of "overhead", such as salaries for staff, office rent, supplies, daily life costs, transport to and from projects and so on. If we would not have set up the Runs 'N Roses organisation, 50% of the given donations to the foundation would be spent on things like that. By staying in the bungalows of Runs 'N Roses, you will help the Thai Child Development Foundation in a constructive and lasting way. This will benefit all children involved with the foundation.
